Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Claim £7,500 Off A Heat Pump with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme – Start saving with a more energy-efficient home.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant designed to support the decarbonisation of heating in buildings across England and Wales. It provides upfront capital grants to help cover the cost of installing low carbon heating systems in homes and non-domestic properties.

Through the scheme, eligible property owners can receive up to £7,500 off a low carbon heating system. In most cases, this will be a heat pump, but the grant can also be used towards the cost of a biomass boiler.

Installers, applying on behalf of property owners, can access:
  • £7,500 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump
  • £7,500 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump, including water source heat pumps
  • £5,000 off the cost and installation of a biomass boiler

Funding, Eligibility, & How To Apply
How much funding can I get with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers support for three types of low carbon heating systems, with different grant amounts depending on what you choose. If you're eligible, you can get one grant per property to help with the cost of either:

  • An air source heat pump: £7,500 towards cost and installation.
  • A ground source heat pump: £7,500 towards cost and installation. This also includes water source heat pumps.
  • A biomass boiler: £5,000 off cost and installation.
What are the Boiler Upgrade Scheme eligibility criteria?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is available to homeowners and small business property owners in England and Wales. To qualify, you’ll need to:

  • Own your property (this can be a home or a small business property).
  • Currently have a fossil fuel heating system (such as a gas boiler) or an electric heating system without a heat pump.
  • Have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) issued within the last ten years.
  • Have a property with a maximum installation capacity up to 45kWth (kilowatt-thermal), which covers most homes. Kilowatt-thermal is a unit that measures the potential heat output of a heating system. The installer will be able to work this out when assessing your property.
  • Make sure your installer is certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) — this is essential for claiming a grant through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. They also need to be a member of an approved consumer code, like the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) or the HIES Consumer Code. Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd is proudly MCS certified and meets all the requirements, so you're in safe hands when choosing us for your low carbon heating installation.

For biomass boilers, you’re only eligible if the property is:

  • In a rural location and not connected to the gas grid.
  • Not a self-build property.

In some circumstances, you may be eligible with a self-build property if:

  • You or the original owner built it yourself or paid a builder to do it.
  • The property has never been owned by a business.
  • You can prove to the installer that your property is self-built. A copy of the title deeds should be enough for this.

New build properties aren’t normally eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. However, if a fossil fuel boiler was already in place when you moved into your property, you may be able to get a grant under the scheme. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides funding through a voucher to help cover the cost of your new low carbon heating system.

The good news? If eligible, Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd takes care of the application process on your behalf, making it simple and stress-free. Here's how it works:

  • Step 1: Get a quote from Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd. You only need one quote to apply.
  • Step 2: Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd submits the application before any installation work begins.
  • Step 3: Once approved, Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd fits your new heating system.
  • Step 4: After the system is up and running, Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd redeems the voucher by registering and commissioning the appliance. The grant amount is then taken off your final bill.

It’s important to know that vouchers for air source heat pumps and biomass boilers must be used within three months, while vouchers for ground source heat pumps are valid for six months — a simple and stress-free process with Gt. Yarmouth Heating Company Ltd handling the paperwork.
